Well now I’m pissed again.
I saw a big long post about “trololol perfectly ‘straight’ Darren, kissing on boys.”
Um. No.
Darren is an actor. He fucking acts for a living. That’s what he does. That’s what he’s always done. His role requires his to kiss men… nay, ONE man. Because THAT’S WHAT HIS CHARACTER DOES.
Nobody says that Neil Patrick Harris is suddenly straight because he’s constantly kissing women on HIMYM.
No one thinks that Daniel Dae Kim is suddenly incapable of speaking English because he played someone who could only speak Korean on Lost.
Nobody argues that Munro Chambers is actually bitchass insane because Eli is slowly slipping into insanity.
THIS IS THE SAME THING.
Darren Criss is straight. He has SAID that he is straight. Even if he’s as queer as a three dollar bill, if he says he’s heterosexual, we, as fans, need to respect that. It’s rude to argue that an actor who is doing fantastic things for the GLBTQQIA community is lying about his sexual orientation. Worse than that, it’s fucking disrepectful.
Now, I’ve made it clear that I find real-people shipping a bit weird, but YMMV. I’m willing to accept people thinking that Darren and Chris would make a great couple. Hell, I’m willing to accept that people write fanfic about it and make manips and fan videos and everything. But there’s a HUGE difference between imagining/contemplating these things and arguing that they are ACTUALLY HAPPENING.
And for the record, yes, I would feel the same way if people were shipping Amber and Chris together, or Jonathan Groff and Lea Michelle, or WHOMEVER. You can’t just assign someone a sexual orientation because you feel like it.
This has been a rant.
I need to go finish up this paper before I fail English.
